Physical Description or Celebrity Claim:

Class (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or Crew):
1st Class

Personality:
Rose was raised a member of high society, but she often feels like she is standing on the outside of an elite, conformist crowd. She can see that games and the politics involved as any outsider who truly observed could. She often felt like an outsider, at least. She hates her role as the quiet, trophy wife and daughter, and sometimes just wants to scream.
She's a free spirit, with dreams and hopes too big for Cal to tolerate, or even understand. At least, that's how Rose feels about it.
She isn't impressed by much. Perhaps the only passenger to think so, she is unimpressed by the Titanic. It may be grand and luxerious, but golden shackles are still shackles. Expression impresses her, and that is perhaps why she is such an avid collection of art. The artists can express themselves in ways that Rose will never be allowed to.
Rose doesn't really deal with anyone's bull. She can get to a point where she'll speak up in often insulting ways, but it usually goes unnoticed. She's been called a pistol and several occassions, and secretly, she likes that she's known for being hard to handle. At least there's something that sets her apart from the rest of the high society princesses.
Above anything, she longs for escape, but there's a realist in her that knows it will never come.
History:
Rose DeWitt Bukater was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1895. If you asked Rose how she came to England, she would wave it off and say that she's been a great many places, and really, it's so hard to keep them all straight. The truth is, Rose and her mother, Rth, haven't really traveled that much. Rose was born into a wealthy family, but her father was something of a black sheep. He had gambling problems that the family kept hidden and out of the public eye.
Even his death a bit of a mystery. It was reported in the papers as a heart condition that finally did him in, but the family suspects that someone may have come to finally be repaid the debt they were owed.
Since her father's death, according to Ruth, they were left with nothing, except a "legacy of bad debts hidden by a good name."
Their redemption, also acording to Ruth, was found in Cal Hockley, whom they met in Philadelphia one day. The rest, as they say, is history, and now in England, Cal is taking Rose and her mother home.
RP Sample:
The ambience of the dining saloon was the same she always heard... soft, polite, meaningless chatter, the clink of glasses, and the rustling of expensive fabrics. It may as well have been a siren that refused to turn off, Rose thought. It was about the same to her.
Cal and her mother were involved in a discussion about the accomodations provided for the 3rd class passengers, and Rose wasn't really paying attention. She was watching a little girl a few tables over. It seemed everywhere she went, she saw this girl, and she wondered if she wasn't just imagining the entire thing.
It wasn't until the topic turned to 'something Rose read in a book somewhere' that she tore her eyes away, and forced herself into conversation again. She wasn't worried. Cal probably liked her better quiet anyway.
